RailOne: WebApp built with WordPress & Flutter Cross-Platform Mobile Application with OCR Business Card Scanner, PWA & Offline Sync for Rail Infrastructure Sales

For RailOne, AddWeb Solution built and enhanced a modern, comprehensive sales enablement solution, replacing the outdated Typo3-based solution with a scalable WebApp built with WordPress, a Progressive Web App, and a mobile app built with Flutter for Android, iOS, tablets, and iPads. The solution provides secure access, offline access with data sync, OCR-powered business card scanning, brochure sharing, multilingual support, and a central admin panel, specifically engineered for RailOne’s sales team working in the rail infrastructure manufacturing industry.

Their sales team is active in various devices and locations in the field, whether it’s trade shows, client offices, or places with no reliable internet connection, so their digital tools are essential to their sales success and customer engagement.

The current platform, constructed with Typo3 CMS, was a heavy burden to operate. It was too dated, inflexible, and mobile platform-specific.

The sales staff had no up-to-date, device-ready tools on which they could work out in the field. Offline access was not available; sales representatives could not access product information, brochures, or customer information when they were not connected to the internet.

Contact information was manually captured from business cards that were gathered at events and meetings with clients, which was slow and prone to errors.

No single administration panel to manage content and user access, resulting in inconsistencies and bottlenecks throughout the team. There was no structure in sharing brochures and no centralized collection of enquiries by contact forms.

Designing and Delivering a Multi-Platform Sales Enablement Ecosystem Across WordPress, PWA, and Flutter

It started with a thorough UI/UX design, where AddWeb Solution created a complete custom design system in Figma, which set the visual language, component library, and user flow architecture for the WebApp and mobile application before development began. This design-first philosophy meant that all development decisions were based on a clear user experience blueprint, which has been tested.

The platform went through three parallel development streams: WebApp built with WordPress, Progressive Web App layer, and the Flutter cross-platform mobile application, all sharing the same data architecture and having a common API infrastructure. The foundation of the CMS and backend was WordPress 6.8.2, along with PHP 8.1.11 and MySQL 8.1.11, while Advanced Custom Fields v6.5.1 provided the sales team with the flexible content management they required.

The Flutter 3.29.0 mobile app was built for Android, iOS, tablet, and iPad, ensuring the sales team has a native experience on all their devices on the go. Offline functionality with data synchronization was an integral part of the architecture – the application would work offline and automatically synchronize data back when it came back online.

The business card scanner uses the OCR functionality of Google ML Kit to recognize the information on business cards by simply scanning them with the device camera, which saves sales representatives a lot of time and eliminates manual data entry when scanning business cards during events and meetings with clients. Super Progressive Web Apps v2.2.42 was used to implement the PWA layer, thus extending the WebApp to a broader audience of users who prefer to use the WebApp via their browser without downloading a native application.

To support RailOne’s need to use the platform in multiple languages, multilingual support was provided via the WPML Multilingual CMS v4.8.2 and WPML String Translation v3.4.1 plugins. Contact Form 7 was used with the CFDB7 database integration, and for sending the emails via all form submissions, WP Mail SMTP was used.
